There’s something about s’mores that instantly brings back that cozy, fireside feeling – the crackle of the flames, gooey melted marshmallows, and melted chocolate sandwiched between crisp graham crackers.  But what if you want to capture all that nostalgia in a quick, no-campfire needed snack?  That’s exactly where this S’mores Snack Mix comes in.  Perfect for movie nights, road trips, or just and easy sweet treat at home, this recipe takes everything you love about classic s’mores and transforms it into a crunchy, chocolatey, shareable mix.  It’s simple to throw together and guaranteed to disappear fast.  Whether you’re making it for a party, a camping trip, a weekend at the cottage, or just to satisfy a late-night craving, this snack mix delivers all the flavour of summer – no fire required.

If you’ve been following along for a while, you probably know that our favourite summertime escape, simply known as “The Lakehouse” sits on a quiet little island, on a lake that freezes over during our long Canadian winters.  As March gives way to warming temperatures and April brings the first signs of spring, it feels like a held breath – everything waiting for the ice to finally give way, and the water to open up for a new season.  This time of year is all about anticipation and excitement about returning to lake life after winter.  Phone calls go out to longtime locals, eager to hear their trusted predictions on when the ice will finally go out.  Some would say THIS is the most wonderful time of the year.  With a whole season of memories just around the corner, we wait for the news that THE ICE IS OUT to gleefully start our preparations for the season ahead.  Once the happy news arrives, there’s not better way to celebrate than with an easy, crowd-pleasing treat like S’mores Snack Mix.  This no-bake and oh-so-easy snack captures the classic flavours of graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows, making it the perfect recipe for making with excited kids and packing for the first drive up to the lake.  I tuck a little container into lunch bags on the day we hear the news – a small tradition of sharing and building the excitement of campfires to come, the pure joy of cutting across an open lake in the boat, and the simple pleasure of carefree summer days.

What goes in S’mores Snack Mix?

This recipe is hardly a recipe.  It’s a simple combination of store-bought ingredients that comes together into a bowl of simple joy.  The ingredients are pantry stable, and can be kept on hand for anytime you feel like the taste of S’mores.  Simply mix it all together in a bowl and watch it disappear!

  • Teddy Grahams:  Found in the cookie or snack aisle of most grocery stores, these teddy bear-shaped cookies bring adorable graham cracker flavour to the mix.
  • Golden Graham cereal:  Adding crisp crunch and more graham cracker flavour is nostalgic Golden Grahams cereal.
  • Milk Chocolate-Covered Pretzels:  You might wonder why it’s impossible to top at just one handful of S’mores Snack Mix.  It all comes down to the irresistible combination of sweet and salty, crunchy and soft textures.  Chocolate-covered pretzels add the perfect contrast, bringing a touch of sweetness and just the right amount of salt to balance every bite.  You can find them pre-made at the grocery store, usually in the candy aisle.
  • Mini Marshmallows:  There can’t be s’mores without marshmallows!  For authentic s’mores flavour distributed evenly in every handful, use mini marshmallows.
  • Milk Chocolate:  Good quality, creamy milk chocolate is essential for this snack mix.  I usually buy Cadbury milk chocolate (two 90gr bars will do the trick) and give it a quick chop into bite-size pieces.

Serving suggestion iconSERVING SUGGESTIONS

S’mores Snack Mix is best served in a way that matches its easyl, shareable vibe.  Pour it into a large bowl for casual gatherings and game nights at the lake, cottage or cabin.   For road trips, boat trips, picnics and school lunches, pack it into individual containers for portable, grab-and-go, convenience.  It’s a great addition to a dessert board, movie nights and to birthday party spreads.  I like to keep the ingredients on hand in The Lakehouse Pantry, for rainy evenings when you want the s’mores flavour but a campfire just isn’t in the cards.  For a fun touch, serve it in mason jars to show off the layers of chocolate, marshmallows and graham-flavoured bits – and don’t forget to keep extra on hand, because it tends to disappear quickly!

Gift Idea IconGIFT IDEA

For a thoughtful and budget-friendly gift idea, package S’mores Snack Mix in clear bags, jars or decorative tins, and tie with ribbon and a handwritten take for easy edible gifts, party favours or holiday treats.  With very simple instructions and no cooking or baking, this is a treat that kids can make and package up themselves.  My children have enjoyed giving out small bags of S’mores Snack Mix to their lake friends as a simple holiday gift, that is also a sweet reminder of summer days and their time together at the lake.
